SATURDAY AUGUST 22 MACOMB FARMERS MARKET
9:30 – 11:30
Since school started, I’ve been getting up and walking the kids to school. So I will be ready to go at the ungodly hour of 9:30 AM. Why? Because the market is worth it! Always a fun gig. Any chance you get to sing on a street corner should be taken. I used to play on South Street in Philly when I was a teenager, a tradition I now continue. Except now the cops don’t make me leave, and nobody tries to beat me up. I must be getting better.
SUNDAY JULY 12 BAXTER’S VINEYARD AND WINERY
3:00 – 6:00 pm Nauvoo, IL
Back in beautiful Nauvoo. This is the perfect destination for a day trip. Especially now that it’s summer. The sunset over the Mississippi, the frogs singing, the scent of the earth…Then head up the road to Baxter’s for a pint or two, or some wine from their own vineyard, while King Neptune sings music from the golden era of acoustic blues. This is as good as it gets!
SATURDAY JULY 11 MACOMB FARMERS MARKET
7:00 am – 1:00 pm MACOMB, IL
Yes, I know I typed 7 am. That’s when the market begins. I start playing at a more reasonable 10 am. So please bring me strong black coffee, no sugar. This is the Market’s 40th anniversary. That’s a lot of carrot cake! To celebrate, there will be activities for kids, a bouncy house, and lunch vendors as well as the fruit and produce stands. I played the market a lot last year, and got to know the folks involved. It will be nice to catch up. I can personally vouch for the quality of food, and friendliness of everyone associated with the Market. They do a superlative job! I’m happy to be part of it! PS Please like me on Facebook!
WEDNESDAY JULY 8 MARKET ALLEY FESTIVAL DAYS
11:30 – 1:00 pm MONMOUTH, IL
Each summer, the beautiful town of Monmouth IL (birthplace of Wyatt Earp) puts on a concert series in the historic Market Alley, just off the town square. This Wednesday I’ll be playing for the lunchtime crowd, and Danny’s Tap and Grille will have food available. There are plenty of nice chairs and tables with umbrellas to keep you cool while you enjoy lunch. Special thanks to Frontier Communications for being our sponsor! And please check out and like my Facebook page!
FRIDAY JUNE 19th MARKET ALLEY WINES
5:30 – 7:00 MONMOUTH, IL
End the week, or start the weekend (your choice), at Market Alley. It’s a wine shop with a wine bar in the back, and when you walk in it’s a party in progress and you’re invited. Seriously, this is a great place to unwind, either at the bar or on one of the plush sofas they have around. They now carry Scotch as well, importing a wide variety of brands and blends.
SAT. JUNE 13th HILL SIDE INN
7:00 – 10:00 FT. MADISON, IA
Oh yeah, this will be a hot one, folks! PLEASE join me at the Hill Side because we have so much fun there I don’t want anyone to miss out! I promise you’ll have a large time!
WED. JUNE 3rd. Chandler Park
Noon – 1:00
As part of the Brown Bag Concert Series, I will be playing in the park, in the gazebo at Chandler Park, in beautiful, verdant, Macomb IL. My pal Kevin Hurst will be joining me onstage and playing blues harp on half the songs. He sounds great and I can’t wait to see what you all think! The concert series started today and I went down to see my friends Barnyard Blue kick the season off. Great sound and a nice big crowd on a perfect summer day!
FRI. APRIL 24th Market Alley Wines
5:30 – 7:00
Come on down to beautiful Monmouth IL and join me at my home away from home. Enjoy wine, beer, or something from their Scotch collection. I’m told they have one of the top selections in the state!
SAT. FEBRUARY 28th New Coperfield’s Book Service
1:00 – 3:00 120 North Side Square
Macomb IL
This will be a fun event! New Copperfield’s is a book store and unofficial community center of Macomb. Every Friday there is an open jam session, and they also host featured performers. I, along with Dennis Devolder, will be leading a blues jam. I’ll also be presenting a Piedmont fingerpicking workshop. I’ll be teaching some finger patterns that will get you on your way to playing Piedmont style blues. It’s free-just bring a guitar. I’ll have tabs you can take home and practice.
FRI. FEBRUARY 13th Market Alley
5:30-7:00 59 Public Square
Monmouth, IL
Every time I play at Market Alley, I feel like I’m walking in on a party. The bar is hopping, and I’ve already made a bunch of really cool friends there. Up front there are tables with big comfy chairs to cozy up in, and always something going on entertainment wise. If there’s a reason I enjoy playing wine bars, this place is it. Come hang out with me-it’s Friday the 13th, I’ll keep you safe and sing my luckiest blues!
SAT. FEBRUARY 14th The Wine Barrel at Baxter’s Vineyard and Winery
7ish -9ish 2010 East Parley Street
Nauvoo, IL
Baxter’s is located in beautiful Nauvoo, IL. In the summer musicians play outside on the deck, where you can enjoy wine and beer in the sunshine. In winter, the music moves indoors to The Wine Barrel, a new and very cool addition to the winery. This is also the time of year that hundreds of Bald Eagles gather and fish on the Mississippi river, just down the road from the winery. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. That alone is a good reason to visit Baxter’s. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I’ll be playing all my Bessie Smith songs, as well as my favorite relationship themed blues, which I guess is pretty much all of them.
